PRFC’s “Give a Duck About Piscataquis” Fundraiser Makes a Splash This August in Dover-Foxcroft

Dover-Foxcroft, ME — The Piscataquis Regional Food Center (PRFC) is making waves this summer with a brand-new fundraiser that’s as fun as it is meaningful. The first-ever Give a Duck About Piscataquis event will send hundreds of rubber ducks racing down the Piscataquis River in a spirited competition to support non-profit organizations in the region.

Community members are invited to “adopt” a duck for just $10 each and join in the excitement. Prizes will be awarded to the fastest ducks to cross the finish line, but the real reward is knowing each duck adopted helps PRFC connect more people with fresh, healthy food across Piscataquis County and supports the missions of other local agencies.

“There is not a lot of positive news regarding food insecurity in Piscataquis County,” said Kelly Sirimoglu, Executive Director at PRFC. “We wanted to host something joyful and lighthearted, but also rooted in the work we do every day. When someone gives a duck, they’re showing they care about their neighbors and want to be part of the solution to help our region thrive.”

Ducks can be adopted online at www.prfoodcenter.org/giveaduck, where supporters will also find options to get involved in other creative ways—through the purchase of lawn signs and t-shirts to help spread the word.

The duck race will take place on Saturday, August 2nd, in downtown Dover-Foxcroft. All proceeds from the event support PRFC’s core programs, the Food Center marketplace, home delivery services, and other local non-profits.
