Hundreds of Rubber Ducks Will Fly at Second Annual "Give A Duck About Piscataquis" Event

Unique fundraiser supports both hunger relief and the future of the Piscataquis Ice Arena

DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — On Friday, July 31, hundreds of rubber ducks will take flight across the ice at the Piscataquis County Ice Arena during the second annual Give A Duck About Piscataquis, one of the county's most entertaining, and meaningful summer fundraisers.

The event benefits Piscataquis Regional Food Center and Piscataquis Forward, supporting two organizations that are helping shape the future of Piscataquis County. Proceeds will help provide nutritious food to local families experiencing food insecurity while also supporting the continued operation of the Piscataquis County Ice Arena, one of the region's most important community gathering places.

Community members can adopt a duck prior to the event or at the arena that evening. Each adopted duck becomes part of the "duck waiting room" before volunteers dramatically "Chuck" hundreds of ducks onto center ice during an intermission of the Foxcroft Academy Alumni Hockey Game.

The winning ducks are those that land closest to center ice.

"It's impossible not to smile when you see hundreds of rubber ducks flying across an ice rink," said Kelly Sirimoglu, Executive Director of Piscataquis Regional Food Center. "But behind the laughter is something much more important. Every duck represents someone in our community who believes that no one should go hungry and that community spaces like our ice arena matter. It's a simple, fun way for people to make a real difference."

The event has quickly become a celebration of community spirit, bringing together families, hockey fans, local businesses, volunteers, and nonprofit supporters for an evening that is equal parts entertainment and philanthropy.

Duck adoptions are available now at participating locations throughout Piscataquis County and will also be available the evening of the event while supplies last.
