Dover-Foxcroft, ME (April 4, 2024) – Piscataquis Regional Food Center, home of the Dover Foxcroft Area Food Center is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a generous grant from Northern Light Health to support its Healthy Additions program. This grant will enhance our ability to provide more fresh produce and healthy foods for the people served by the Food Center.
The Healthy Additions program, launched in 2023, is dedicated to providing access to healthy fruits and vegetables, low-sodium, low-sugar, and special diet resources to individuals and families in the Maine Highlands region.
"We are immensely grateful to Northern Light Health for their support of our Healthy Additions program," said Kelly Sirimoglu, Executive Director at PRFC. "This grant will enable us to provide more fresh fruits, vegetables, and shelf-stable items that support special diets, to the more than 600 households who visit the Food Center each month.”
The Food Center, located in Dover Foxcroft, opened its doors to the community on February 14, 2023, and has experienced a 200% increase in program registration. Each week an average of 190 low-income families visit the Food Center marketplace. Many of the people served by the Food Center are living with Diabetes, Hypertension, and other diet-related conditions. Access to items like fresh mushrooms, tomatoes, apples, lettuce, and citrus fruits supports our shopper's wellness.
