ands & Warm Hearts 2026: A Community United to Fight Hunger
This past Saturday, February 28th, more than 80 community members, sponsors, and volunteers gathered for our annual Cold Hands & Warm Hearts Luncheon, and what a beautiful afternoon it was.
Together, we raised our voices and our forks in support of neighbors facing hunger across Piscataquis County. In addition to financial support for the Piscataquis Regional Food Center, attendees donated more than 100 pounds of canned goods and dozens of hats and mittens to help keep our community nourished and warm through the final stretch of winter.

One of the most meaningful moments of the afternoon was surprising longtime PRFC volunteer Maryanne Hartley with the 2026 J. Viles Volunteer Award. Maryanne’s quiet dedication, steady presence, and deep compassion embody the very heart of our mission. We are so grateful for her many years of service.

We were also honored to present the 2026 Hunger Heroes Award to the Perkins Family. For years, Dolly, Chad, and their entire family have shown up for PRFC, especially when it comes to ensuring families can enjoy a full Thanksgiving meal with turkey, stuffing, and all the fixings. Their generosity and hands-on commitment truly make a difference for the people we serve.
A heartfelt thank you to Central Hall Commons for hosting us in such a welcoming space, and to Belly of the Beast BBQ for providing an extremely tasty lunch that everyone enjoyed. Good food shared in good company made the afternoon even more special.
Events like Cold Hands & Warm Hearts are only possible because of the support of our sponsors. We extend our sincere thanks to:
Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union
Puritan
The Maine Democratic Party, Piscataquis County
Pleasant River Lumber
Your partnership helps ensure that no one in our region faces hunger alone.
To everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, sponsored, or cheered us on, thank you. Even in the coldest season, this community proves that our hearts are anything but cold.
With gratitude, Piscataquis Regional Food Center
