Garden in a Box

Container Gardening Learning Series

Garden in a Box is a container gardening pilot project that officially began in January of 2020. The idea for Garden in a Box came about through UMaine Cooperative Extension in Piscataquis County's "One Tomato" project.

We saw how much people loved learning to grow and care for their tomato plants! It not only stimulated intergenerational connection and learning, but also provided people with fresh food.

The idea became a reality when we received grant funding from the Quimby Family Foundation! We are piloting the project with twenty Gardeners, and two Garden Coaches.

Our overall goal is to set up participants for success and generate enthusiasm for growing their veggies year after year, by providing them with the all of the resources, materials, education and guidance they need to get started.

Our Mission is to improve food security in the Piscataquis Region by connecting people with sources of healthy food.
