My name is Lilly and I have been hanging out with Cece, Her Auntie Amy, my mom (Theresa), and sometimes my dog Bailey at their office! I am 10 years old and in the 5th grade. Cece asked me if I could share a story about what my class is doing to help the hungry people in our town.
My mom and Miss Amy came to my school last month and talked to us about hunger and how it affects us. We did this really fun project with plates. We wrote on the plate about how hunger makes us feel. I feel really dizzy and sick when I am hungry! A few of my friends wrote what they can't do when they are hungry, like run at recess!! Some of their friends from Mayo Hospital came and talked to us about making good food choices too.
After they talked, my entire class wanted to help those people who can't go to the store to buy food and use the food cupboard. So, we decided as a class to have a Read-A-Thon! That is were we spend a lot of time reading as much as we can and ask friends and family to donate needed items for the food cupboard to me so we can help them. I really wanted to help so I asked my mom to post about what we are doing on her facebook page because she knows A LOT more people than I do! And it worked, she said 17 people wanted to sponsor me!!!
It felt really good to help other people. I want to find more ways to help the people around us and I hope you do too!!!
Thanks for reading,
